Prices on Used Rifles?

A friend of mine is in tight financial straights and needs to sell off some rifles. The two that I'm interested in are a Henry Golden Boy .22LR lever gun, not a special edition (fairly interested in) and a Ruger 77 in .25-06 (not so much). Both are in excellent shape.

On Gunbroker, the Henry goes for around $220 (new for State editions) and the few Ruger listings were $450-$750 (used). I don't know how GunBroker prices stack up to real world prices, but I want to be fair. What would you offer for them?

If I don't buy them, he's going to sell them on consignment at a gun store. I'm really not looking for another .22, but what the hell, you can't have too many!

One the one you really might want....the 22LR.....$200......provided, they are about $300+ brand new.....otherwise no more than 65% of "new".

On the 25-06......you really do not even have an interest in.....do not buy it at all....and if you do, make sure you can turn $100 for yourself at the chance you may get stuck with it....I'd say no more than $300 - $350 for the 25-06. Do you reload? The 25-06 is good for varmit up through deer if you use a 120 grain bullet on deer.....not a bad caliber...but why not just use a 30-06 or 308....

I've bought about 10 guns this past year from a similar situation...some I've kept - others I've sold and made $50 - $100 for my risk and efforts....

Try the "Blue Book of Gun Values"...if you have a copy. Or sneak a peek at your local newsstand or bookstore.

Good advice, the .25-06 is kinda an "off" caliber, neither a varmint gun and on the small end for deer, IMO. Also, there's the fact that this is his favorite rifle. He's killed more deer with it than anything else and I'd feel a little weird owning it. Better it go to a stranger. I won't have to deal with him wanting to buy it back when deer season comes around!

Out here in the west with wide open spaces, the 25-06 is very popular for praire dogs, coyotes, deer and antelope...even elk with heavier bullets. Accurate, flat-shooting, it has less recoil than the 30-06, 308, 270 and is considered a better cartridge for the recoil sensitive.

.25-06 on an elk? The only things I know about elk is that they're big and tasty, so I'll not dispute that! I've never handled a Ruger centerfire rifle before, I'll say that I'm very impressed with the workmanship, fit and feel.

.25-06? Damn, and I thought 22-250 was an oddball caliber.

Leave him with at least one gun!
